Ms. Miller would have gotten higher marks from me if her stuff had actually been baked, instead of something like cardboard covered with icing.



And then someone's got to talk to the professors at Concordia, but the following week at the fabric student's show, there was an artist who went the other way. Instead of "baked" versions haute-couture, there were "haute-couture" versions of baked goods.

Speaking of perception, if Ms. Miller were to become a pastry chef...

Stuff Seen - Julie Doucet

It has been a very long time since I wrote about some shows here in town. Apologies, it has been hectic here. But, back at the beginning of March we wandered through the Belgo Building, saw a whack of stuff.

Including in the meandering was the aforementioned Ms. Doucet's work. Some fairly simple line drawings (or if you prefer caricatures) and the original pictures upon which they were based. Made me realize the importance of presentation, as you can see pretty much the same darn thing any night of the week during the summer if you go for a stroll in Old Montreal. I was initially gonna give Ms. Doucet a higher mark (something like a B+) but then realized that I knew diddly-squat about caricatures, and was merely impressed with her work because of the other things I'd seen in the Belgo Building that day.

Stuff Seen - Laura St. Pierre

Some sort of recycled art project. Last year at about the same time, Ms. St. Pierre used some of the same styrofoam pieces in her project that was exhibited at the Parisian Laundry, didn't much like it then. Still am not impressed. This year's model had some lights, a timer and a mirror as well as the styrofoam. Remind me in March of 2007 to see if the same styrofoam shows up again someplace.

Samuel Roy-Bois goes on a tangent

I like how big the circle is...

1. There's this 'zine called tangent based out of London (in England, not Ontario).

2. There's this artist, Samuel Roy-Bois who is going to be having an exhibition at the Musée d'art contemporain at the end of the month.

3. Zeke's is the only place in Canada where you can get the copy of tangent that has M. Roy-Bois' work on the cover and inside.

I think I'm gonna get my copy autographed...
