After reading this article I think Canadian art might actually have a higher profile than Swiss art. If Alexandre Calame is in fact the 'foremost Swiss landscape painter of his time' but is only had his first solo exhibit in the United States at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute last year, then Canadian art is light years ahead, if only because David Milne had an exhibit of his watercolors at the Met in New York.
There is a certain sense of getting on and moving up in the world once you realize that his great-great-great-grandson is a Montrealer. Although I gotta admit, being better known than the Swiss at art is sorta like getting the bronze medal in the biathlon, for a brief instant it seems wicked cool, and then 15 seconds later no one cares except your parents.
